Aaron’s energy and enthusiasm was amazing, the audience was riveted and left wanting more.
The day was a mix of inspiration, information and celebration and included a key note address from Aaron Phipps, a wheelchair rugby Paralympian, adventurer, advocate and role model for people with disabilities and professionals alike.
His presentation was not only hugely entertaining, but also clearly demonstrated how his personal drive and determination has enabled him to achieve success, not only in the world of sport but also in achieving some extraordinary physical challenges. Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro would defeat many of us, but not Aaron, who managed it without the aid of a wheelchair or any physical assistance! Aaron shared with us his journey towards independence and included an emotional “thank you” to Occupational Therapists for the support he received when in hospital and in preparing for his return home.
Comments from the delegates included:
“this is why we came into the job”
“good to have such positive recognition of the value of OT “
”makes you want to do an even better job and influence others”
“he left those in the room buzzing with positivity"
An inspirational person, engaging speaker and truly amazing role model for all
The Rewards and Recognition Event is about recognising the hard work, dedication and professionalism of the staff and employers that sits behind the fantastic achievements of our customers.
Aaron was the icing on the cake at the event, he was a true inspiration to the team. He gave everyone a greater understanding of the importance of team work in supporting people to reach their full potential.
Aaron was engaging, bringing a great sense of humour to the proceedings with an open and honest approach which put everyone at ease. The team hasn’t stopped talking about Aaron’s presentation, what a great guy Aaron is and how he brought a whole new aspect to the celebration event.
I have no idea how we can top Aaron as our Key note speaker, for next year’s event, he is truly inspirational.
As promised, I have picked out some of the key quotes from the feedback below.
“Best training talk I have attended with the Trust”
“It was great to hear Aaron’s story – it puts our everyday problems into perspective”
“This is the most motivating, inspirational event I have attended with SHFT”
“ So helpful seeing someone else’s resilience”
“I’ll tell Aaron’s story – will help motivate the patients in my amputee group at work”
“Incredibly inspiring – incredibly motivating”
“It was fantastic”
“When my daughter – who is a wheelchair user – thinks something is too ambitious, we will now think “how” as opposed to “no”
“A fantastic opportunity to meet a truly inspirational man”
Firstly Aaron has the most engaging personality and in the pre-dinner ‘Meet and Greet’, Aaron was ‘at home’ from the moment he arrived. Nothing phased him.
When it came to giving his talk, he held everyone’s attentions throughout. He presents in a free and easy manner, without remorse for his early life experiences. In fact he talks about how they gave him direction to his future and access to places and people he would have probably never met.
At the end of his talk, every member of this very mixed audience gave him a standing ovation. It was thoroughly deserved.
If you are looking for a speaker for your next event, look no further than Aaron. He is ‘Engaging’, ‘Charismatic’, ‘Interesting’, ‘Funny’, ‘Inspiring’. You will not be disappointed.
I'm in awe of how strong we can be as human beings and how it's a lesson to us all that despite the 'stuff' life throws at us, we should grab every opportunity we're given and to make the most of our one precious life.
Good luck with your continuing success Aaron. I will be watching the wheelchair rugby with excitement - what a game!
I have received so much positive feedback and there is no doubt that Aaron was the star of the show. As an organisation we are facing a difficult future which will challenge us and require us to adapt and change, Aaron put this all into perspective and helped us to believe that anything is possible.
The event was to showcase opportunities for high achieving students and to promote links with industry and Aaron provided a real insight into what he has been able to achieve and how partnerships with many different people and organisations have helped him to get to where he is today.
His ability to effectively put over his passion for his sport and to demonstrate his dedication in overcoming challenges was really amazing. I would highly recommend Aaron as a speaker at any event as he really reaches out to the audience and conveys what life is really about.’
It was a privilege to meet you and Health and Social Care in Guernsey will be cheering you on at the 2020 Olympics. Good Luck!
Aaron’s story effortlessly tackled big transformational themes such as resilience, motivation, performance, seeking opportunities through change, teamwork, and work-life balance, in a way that standard tired PowerPoint presentations could never do.
It was truly amazing to watch a room full of OT's be awe inspired by Aaron who seemingly doesn't allow anything or anyone to stop him achieving his goals and having an impact on those around him. I have been told by staff since that they will never forget him. Thank you Aaron, our plan worked!
It was great to see so many staff nodding in agreement when I said how much I felt we all had to take away, and how we can apply your valuable lessons about perseverance and working through challenges to be the best that we can be.
Your informal style really made us all feel we were talking to you personally which made your story even more emotive.
Aaron certainly managed to inspire our residents and it was clear to see from expressions on residents’ faces that they were completely astounded to hear about Aaron’s many achievements despite being in a wheelchair.
Aaron is proof that when you believe you can do something and focus on achieving it, you can overcome personal challenges that you never thought were possible. A true inspiration with a positive outlook on life.
Thanks for helping to make our conference such an absolute success, the atmosphere was amazing!! I hope we have the opportunity to work with you again in the future.
Contracting meningitis had a major impact on Aaron’s life but did that stop him achieving his dreams and goals? Of course it didn’t, Aaron is one of the most down to earth people you will meet but his attitude and determination is inspirational.
Aaron’s story was emotional. Conveyed with humour we were hooked from the beginning.
He is clear, honest, funny, and passionate. Throughout our time working together, he has helped us raise hundreds of thousands of pounds from corporate sponsors, and offered reassurance and inspiration to people whose lives have been dramatically changed by meningitis.
He was kind enough to pass on his knowledge and expertise in public speaking to younger members of the Hampshire Talented Athlete Scheme, giving them the skills and confidence to talk about their own sporting careers.
As part of a wider team that day we raised over £640,000 (AROUND £250,000 OF WHICH,IT WAS ESTIMATED, AARON RAISED INDIVIDUALLY!!!) Aaron kindly agreed to speak via Skype at a further fundraising event for MRF organised by my sister who is a fellow Ambassador and once again the audience were left in no doubt that they had experienced something very special.
I can genuinely say that Aaron is one of the most inspirational and down-to-earth people I have ever had both the pleasure and honour of meeting.”
We also recorded a short documentary about Aaron and his story and he was a pleasure to work with throughout this production. I have recently been in contact with Aaron about recording another interview with him for a different project. Aaron is very professional and an inspiring person to work with.
Your natural style of delivery conveyed the facts, your achievements, hopes and dreams, combining practical detail with heartfelt emotion, taking us all with you on the ride of your life.
A very hard act to follow!!
We were all really impressed with Aaron's energy and enthusiasm, he lit up the room and gave us all an excellent sense of perspective."
His experience, drive and passion makes him the unstoppable personality he is. Last year at Meningitis Research Foundation Childhood Amputee Day “Pushing the Boundaries” Aaron was clearly a star to everyone he met.
